"Why" continued

Not all scientists have dismissed the WHY question as irrelevant. Here is what one of our most eminent scientists said:

Up to now most scientists have been too occupied with the development of new theories that describe what the universe is, to ask the question "why". If we find the answer to that it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason!
-Stephen Hawking

And yes, most searches for a root "why" land up in an infinite regression. And not finding a why (aka reason, aka meaning) for life can be very disturbing if you think about it deeply enough. As Nietzsche said:

"What is nihilism? - When "why" finds no answer"

Which is what led me to Eastern philosophy and the WAY of the Tao.

Pg 160 of my book "A Branch of Wisdom"

"Forget the wherefore of things
Abide not with dualism
Carefully avoid pursuing it;
As soon as you have right and wrong
Confusion ensues and the way is lost."

- Seng-t ' San

  1. The last post everyone seems to have missed my sense of humour. The term "rubbed up the wrong way" was meant as a slat on the act of masturbation. Oh well, better not join the comedy circuit!
