Taking the Red Pill

"Taking the Red Pill - Science, Philosophy & Religion in THE MATRIX"

Started the book yesterday. Just what I needed - computers, sci-fi, alternate realities and philosophy all mashed together in one juicy read. The book arrived a couple months ago, but my reading habit went for a ball of shit after I had a hypomanic episode on Amazon and ordered enough reading material to last 2 years. When they arrived I just felt totally overwhelmed, didn't know where to start, so didn't start.

Here's what's lined up on my near-term reading list:

The Allure of Gnosticsim - The Gnostic experience in Jungian psychology and Contemporary Culture - Robert A Segal

We the Media - Grassroots Journalism by the people for the people - Dan Gillmor (about blogging guys, amongst other things)

Ubik - Philip k Dick (sci-fi)

The next 50 years - Science in the First Half of the 21st Century - John Brockman

Divine Harmony: The Life and Teachings of Pythagoras - Can't-find-author-right-now

Ancient Philosophy, Mystery, and Magic: Empedocles and Pythagorean Tradition - Can't-find-author-right-now (This Pythagoras dude is my Main Man!)

That's for pleasure. For business purposes the following are overdue reads:

ASP for Dummies

SQL for Dummies

The Google Story - Inside the Hottest, Business, Media and Technology Suucess of our times. - David A. Vise (just to find out who I'm gonna be dealing with when my mania inspired web idea hits the world in 2006, and Google realises it's going to have to buy me out)

Sometimes I think I should just commit some horrendous crime and get solitary confinement for 10 years or so. I could read all my books in peace, finish my philosophy Masters, and not have to bother about all this pay-your-rent-on-earth crap.

Problem is: some smart-arse lawyer would come along and get me off on account of insanity...

  1. I've got enough books to read for 20 years! Of course, that is still not enough...

then about 1 1/2 yrs ago i went & bought about 10 books & did the same as you. reading paralysis...just couldn't figure which to open first. to this day i still have some of those to read, even though i've finished others i've bought since.
but my gosh, i would never even attempt to read what you do, not even for WORK
lol i love the insanity defense. i'd get off on that too.
